Idea Is Going To Launch Their Own Feature Phone At Rs 2,500 To Compete With Jio Phone

Few days ago, Jio announced about their Jio Phone which is effectively free of cost. And a lot of people are already waiting for the Jio Phone launch on 24th August. Then we heard about Airtel feature phone. And now, Idea is reportedly going to launch Idea feature phone in India to compete with Jio Phone. In case of Bharti Airtel, India’s largest telecom operator, instead of making own phones, they are trying to tie-up with pre-existing phone manufacturer. So, it will be very interesting to see the competition between all the telcos in the market segment of feature phone.

Idea Feature Phone Specifications

As of now, there is no specific information about the specs of Idea feature phone. But according to Himanshu Kapania, the managing director of the company, said that it will come with some features which are not in Jio Phone. Reportedly, unlike Jio Phone, Idea feature phone will support sim cards of any operator. So, they are not pushing users to choose only Idea. Users can simply use any operator in their Idea feature phones.

On the other hand, it is likely to support Whatsapp in this phone. According to a report of Gadgets360, Jio Phone doesn’t support Whatsapp but it is very popular messenger among us. So, Idea will include Whatsapp on their feature phone to be unique than Jio Phone. The phone will support VoLTE connectivity. But it will take up to 2018 to cover the whole country with 4G VoLTE network for Idea Cellular.

Idea Feature Phone Price In India

Users can get Jio Phone for effectively free of cost. Mukesh Ambani told that, buyers will have to deposit Rs 1,500 as security money at the time of purchase and that amount will be refunded to the users after three years. But for Idea feature phone, the price is set to Rs 2,500 which looks pretty expensive than Jio Phone. Though the Idea feature phone price is not finally fixed yet. But the managing director of Idea has said it’s price around Rs 2,500.

We can expect much better specifications and facilities on Idea feature phone than Jio Phone by judging it’s price. But, still the price is a bit high. And Idea hasn’t confirmed yet that the price will be refundable after use or not. In case of Airtel, they told that Airtel feature phone will not be free of cost like Jio Phone.

Idea Cellular has already received huge loss in their telecom business after the launch of Reliance Jio. So, they are now planning something big to bring back customer. Aditya Birla Group, the parent company of Idea Cellular is being merged with second largest telecom operator Vodafone to beat Reliance Jio. Kapania also said that they will try to provide as much feature as they can add in Idea feature phone at this price. Users can use any sim card in their feature phone and also enjoy popular apps like Google, Facebook and Whatsapp which are not supported by Jio Phone.

Idea Feature Phone Launch Date In India

The actual release date is still unclear. Idea is now just working on it. And once they complete the manufacturing process, they will announce the official launch date of Idea feature phone. As of now, we can just wait for the phone. It may launch in the first week of 2018. Because Idea 4G VoLTE network isn’t available in all places in India. So, it will take until 2018 to cover the whole India with Idea 4G VoLTE network and then we may see Idea feature phone in action.
